Cloudworks Lifts Credit Unions into the Cloud through Partnership with Ongoing Operations for New Hosted IT Solutions
Cloudworks, one of the pioneers in the cloud computing industry, has partnered with Maryland-based Ongoing Operations to offer cloud-based hosted IT solutions for credit unions, including virtual desktops, application hosting and hosted Microsoft Exchange servers.
“Integrating our services with Ongoing Operations – whose data centers are developed specifically to meet credit union security and compliance requirements – allows us to offer our customers the best in custom-tailored, hosted IT solutions,” said Mike Eaton, CEO of Cloudworks, which has been in the Information Technology business for 14 years and has provided services in the cloud since 2006 – one of the first companies to do so.
The partnership provides credit unions, regional banks and other financial services institutions a new suite of IT offerings designed to reduce total ownership costs, including costly upgrades to Exchange 2010, and allows them to pay predictable monthly service fees instead of large capital expenditures. A number of credit union service organizations (CUSOs) and credit unions are already in the implementation stage.
“These new services fill a void as the overall IT expenses at credit unions continue to grow with frequent hardware upgrades, patches and increasingly complex software licensing fees,” said Kirk Drake, president of Ongoing Operations, which specializes in business continuity and disaster recovery solutions and now serves about 100 credit unions nationwide.
Cloudworks provides cloud computing services for small and mid-market business customers including virtual desktops, application hosting and hosted infrastructure. Customers log in through a web browser to access their secure desktop, email, applications, and files. Cloudworks, which works with Macs, PCs, and mobile devices, reduces IT labor costs, eliminates costly software updates, hardware upgrades, hardware failures and improves data security.
