Yesterday, OWC staff had the opportunity to hear Dr. Mark Emmert, the president of the NCAA, address Town Hall Los Angeles on “Achieving Student-Athlete Success” at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel. During his address, Dr. Emmert discussed several issues facing the well-being of student athletes, including scholarship policies, the necessity of sport/life balance, and the recent infractions that the NCAA has dealt to Division I schools. Prior to joining the NCAA, Dr. Emmert was president of his alma mater, the University of Washington, where he led the university to its standing as second among all public and private institutions in research fundings.
