OWC secured coverage in El Nuevo Herald for Abogada Julia

If you work overtime and are not paid, if your salary is lower because you are undocumented, if you are a victim of abuse because of your immigration status, if you are threatened with a call to “la migra,” you should know that you can apply for a T visa.

This would allow someone to obtain a work permit, a Social Security number and immigration protection, says attorney Giulia Fantacci, who works with survivors of human trafficking to legalize their status in the United States.

Fantacci, who has offices in Miami, and has Hispanicized her Italian name to become “Abogada Julia,” as she identifies herself on social networks, explains that this visa can help people who suffer sexual exploitation, and also those who have their wages “kidnapped,” one of the forms of labor exploitation.

“It can be a person who comes across the border and once they are in the country, they are not free to go where they want, they are forced to be in one place and they find themselves as a slave,” notes Fantacci, who has documented and told the stories of many people in the two years her office has been working with a large number of T-visa applicants.
