More women die every year from heart disease than from all cancers combined. With February being National Heart Month, Melissa Olaso shares her story on her struggle with heart failure and how the Impella CP heart pump saved her life. She was a healthy woman who went through three totally normal pregnancies and was unaware her heart would fail on her fourth pregnancy.
“When many people think about heart disease, obese men who smoke come to mind, but these types of diseases cover a very large spectrum,” says Dr. Cathy Jeon, an interventional cardiologist and Medical Director of Abiomed, the creators of the cardiac pump that was placed in Olaso.
