Students, parents and school representatives from iQ Academy, an online public school, donated nonperishable goods to the Salvation Army during a Thanksgiving Food Drive at iPlay Arcade in Glendale, on Thursday, Nov. 14.
The food drive received donations from 25 school families, according to a news release.
“iQ elementary and middle school students are learning lessons that go far beyond their screens,” the news release states.
Gary Gyultemiryan, a high school social science teacher, said 20 boxes and 20 bags with items ranging from canned goods to pasta were collected during the event. He said when the students donate to the food drive with their parents, it instills them with a giving heart.
“We are an online school, so we are kind of more motivated just to get kids out there and … help them build character and have a sort of service-oriented heart for these sort of events,” he said.
