Mike Eaton, CEO of Thousand Oaks-based Cloudworks, spoke with Larry Magid this week for pieces on CBS Radio News (see audio player above) and KCBS in San Francisco about technology that enables full Windows applications to run on mobile devices such iPhones and iPads. The end result is a “virtual desktop” that mirrors the normal desktop experience, allowing access to software and files just like the user was in front of their computer at the office or their home.
The applications and files are on a server in the cloud, and the mobile device essentially functions as an access terminal, Eaton explained to Magid. The service is a “window into Windows.”
A consumer can be anywhere in the world and access his Windows applications via whatever device is on hand, according to Magid.
